22nd March 2017

“I got a chocolate ombre last year and wanted it touched up. It turned into an awesome chocolatey color that I just love. It looks elegant and sophisticated. Special thanks to Mai for taking such good care of my hair!”

Heidi S.

The term Ombré, which literally means shadow or shading in French, illustrates the idea of gradually blending one color hue into another, generally going from light to dark. This artistic technique, originally used in the clothing industry, has been adapted and incorporated into hairstyling and can also be found in nail and makeup artists. In hairstyling, the easiest way to describe the ombre style is as the transition from dark roots to light ends. Some of the most famous ladies who chose to dye their hair ombre are Khloe Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Lopez.

According to some of the most notable hair stylists, one of the most elegant and stylish looks from the ombré family is the chocolate ombré. It gives hair a complicated, expensive aspect, and if you want to stick to a more natural hair color, this technique preserves that authenticity while combining it with a sophistication that will never go out of style.

In terms of haircuts, we generally advise our clients to go for layers when they plan on dying their hair ombré. Although getting this type of haircut is not mandatory, it usually gives hair a more elegant look, more volume, and more styling possibilities. Chocolate ombré is rather on the conservative side of the color palette, but it works wonders when it is combined with a layered haircut. You can go from plain to extravagant with just a simple updo, a twirl or a couple of hairpins.

Getting chocolate ombré hair is not a very complicated process and it is extremely easy to maintain for quite a while. As long as you use some conditioning products, your ombré hair is likely to keep its beautiful rich aspect. Since we are talking about a layered haircut, it is important to know that your hair will not wilt as soon as it grows half an inch. And layers, let’s face it, will always be classy. And chocolate will always be good. Not sure yet? Then check out the main reasons you should get ombré hair.

Reasons to get Chocolate Ombre Hair

1. It is a Fun and Chic Hairstyle

While solid hair shades are classic and will never go out of fashion, we have to admit that sometimes they might be a bit dull for those of us who are on the adventurous side. If you feel like you need to spice things up in the hair area, getting ombré is a great way to do it. With ombré hair, you can choose between a great range of color combinations and it is impossible not to find the perfect one for you. Be it a smooth transition from your natural hair color to a lighter shade, or a crazy transition from blue to green, it’s all up to you.

2. Ombré Hairstyles are Amazing

If the two shades you select for the ombré look complement one another nicely, it is more than likely that any hairstyle will look great. When creating hairstyles, the gradient effect of the ombré will make the details stand out and even simple braids, buns, and ponytails will look fantastic.

3. It is a Low-maintenance Hairstyle

One of the most important advantages of Ombré hair is that growing roots are no longer a problem, especially when you chose a transition that starts from your natural hair color. However, if you chose to change your hair color entirely for you ombré look you might find that your roots are a bit of a nuisance, but you definitely shouldn’t let this stop you from choosing your favorite hair color.

4. Very Easy to Change It Back

Did you ever feel like you need a change, but just a small one, not something extreme? Welcome to the club! That is exactly how we feel all the time and this means that ombré is exactly what you are looking for. If you don’t want to change your hair color entirely but just want to make it look more interesting you just found your solution. Ombré hair is easy to get and also easy to get rid of, but simply trimming it or recoloring it.

The Process of Getting Ombré Hair

Step one

Choose the shades of ombré that you like best (or the ones that complement your natural color) and decide where you want the fade to stop. Some of the most popular choices are a lighter shade of the same color your hair is, a shade of red or a shade of blonde. Keep in mind that if you chose a shade that is very close to your natural hair color you will get a beautiful effect. Another important aspect is to always try and find the less damaging solutions for getting ombré hair.

Step two

This step is all about brushing the hair thoroughly and making sure that it is completely untangled, as this will help bleach and dye the hair evenly.

Step three

In most cases, people chose a type of ombré that requires bleaching, a procedure that lifts all the color from your hair. There is a less damaging technique, using a blonde hair dye, but unfortunately, it is not as effective as bleaching.

The bleaching process will be followed by 10 to 45 minutes of letting the bleach set and washing it off.

The bleaching process is one of the most delicate hairstyling techniques and that is why you should always be careful and take the necessary precautions. One thing you should keep in mind is that not washing your hair for at least one day before bleaching it might save you it from a lot of damage. The accumulated grease in your hair will protect it from getting too dry during the bleaching process.

Step four

Unless you only wanted a transition from your natural hair color to a lighter shade, then this step is just as important as the previous one. After the hair has been successfully bleached, washed and dried it is time to dye it the color you previously chose. There are several dying techniques and your hairstylist will make sure he chooses the right one in order to get the desired results. After the color sets, it will be washed off and your hair will go through the blow-drying process once more.

Step five

The last step is getting a pretty hairstyle to match your shiny new ombré. You can ask your hairstylist to braid your hair or to give you some amazing beach curls and you are all set. Doesn’t it look amazing?
