What You Need to Know about Curly Hair

You should know that there are different types of curly hair: soft waves, naturally coiling hair, straight spirals, etc.

Each of these types requires different kinds of care. Once you know what type of curls you have, it will be much easier to take care of it.

Washing Your Hair

Washing your hair can easily become an hours-long affair especially if your hair is long and dense. That is why many women with curls choose to wash their hair only once or twice a week. Washing, detangling, styling and drying your hair can become a real struggle. That is why the dry shampoo is their best friend.

Applying Conditioner

If your hair is too tangled or too dry, the best option for you might be adding the conditioner washing method, as it will strengthen and soften your hair. Make sure you use the right conditioner for your hair if you want to comb and style it easier. Be careful about the amount of product you use, because curly hair can be very hard to rinse.

Drying and Styling Curly Hair

You already know that if you twist your hair up into a towel will only get you a frizzy mess. Stay away from the towel frizz by using a cotton t-shirt. Pat and rub your hair with the t-shirt until your hair is dry. Instead of using a brush, pick a wide-toothed comb or just finger-comb your hair to fix the snarls and tangles. You can also add a detangle product, mouse or anti-frizz serum, while your hair is damp.

If you do not have time to wait for your hair to dry, you can use a diffuser for drying. It carefully distributes the heat evenly, preventing the frizz caused by traditional blow dryers.

Ongoing Maintenance

You should have your ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks, to prevent overall fraying and split ends which can make your hair look like a hot mess. When you choose a stylist at the Plaza Hair Salon, let them know about your ongoing maintenance, what products you use and how you use them. They will tell you if you are using the right products and also offer you a haircut that will flatter you.
